Dermapen Microneedling
Melbourne Skin & Dermatology is an authorised treatment provider for Dermapen microneedling.
What is Dermapen?
Dermapen is a form of microneedling and considered the gold-standard needling treatment around the world. Dermapen is a clinical treatment that uses microscopic needles to penetrate the skin at different set depths. Dermapen allows practitioners to treat the skin up to a depth of 3.0mm.
What is Dermapen used for?
Dermapen microneedling is used to improve the appearance of:
- Acne scarring
- Fine lines & wrinkles
- Traumatic scars
- Stretch Marks
- General skin texture
- Enlarged pores
How does Dermapen work?
Dermapen microneedling causes small channels to be created in the skin resulting in microtrauma. From here, the skin undergoes a reparative process where growth factors, collagen and elastin levels increase, ultimately enhancing the appearance of the skin.
What does Dermapen feel like?
The most common sensation experienced during the procedure is a warm, scratching feeling as the Dermapen glides around the face.
How many treatments are required?
Typically, 3-6 treatments are required to achieve results, however, this depends on the skin condition being treated. Treatments are repeated no earlier than every 4 weeks.
Skin Preparation
Patients are required to have a consultation prior to treatment to determine suitability. At the consultation, your practitioner will create a tailored plan for you based on your skin concerns. Standardised and highly detailed 3D photos are taken of the face at baseline, and again at the end of the treatment course. Adhering to your skincare plan is key to achieving optimum results.
What to do prior to treatment?
2 weeks prior to treatment
We ask that you avoid the following 2 weeks prior to your treatments;
- Chemical peels & facials
- Cosmetic injectables
- Direct sun exposure, and always wear SPF
- Exfoliating products
How is the procedure performed?
Your skin will be cleansed and a special serum applied to the face. This serum allows the Dremapen handpiece to glide along the skin. The procedure will then commence with the practitioner using the Dermapen device to treat affected areas. After the area is treated, a special mask is applied to soothe the skin. The Dermapen microneedling procedure can take anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Anaesthetic is optional.
PRP Signature Facial (Vampire Facial)
Melbourne Skin & Dermatology offers a Signature PRP (platelet rich plasma) facial that uses the Dermapen microneedling device to create small channels in the skin which allows the applied PRP to penetrate the skin. The patient’s own blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge to allow extraction of platelet rich growth factors from the rest of the blood. This treatment can provide benefits for general facial rejuvenation, eyelid rejuvenation & can reduce the appearance of facial fine lines and wrinkles.
