Medical Fees

Please note that Melbourne Skin & Dermatology is a private clinic.

To sustain a modern and progressive specialist medical practice and ensure the highest standards in medical equipment, procedures, staffing and training, we do not make cost-cutting decisions at the expense of patient safety and expertise. To remain viable under such principles, this also means that we are unable to provide a bulk-billed or discounted service under any circumstances.

Unfortunately, Medicare rebates have not kept up with the increasing costs of running a private medical practice.  This means there is always a gap to pay.

This gap may be significant to you in your financial circumstances, so please read the information below carefully.

Consultation Fees

For a standard initial consultation of 15 minutes or less, you can expect to pay anywhere from $200 to $220 out of pocket (with a valid referral to claim a Medicare rebate).

Fees for a subsequent visit vary depending on the complexity of the appointment.  This can range anywhere from $20 to $200 out of pocket.

Procedure Fees

All procedures including skin biopsies carry an additional fee.  Some procedures can be undertaken during the initial consultation, whilst others will need to be booked on a separate occasion.

Procedure fees vary, taking into account staffing and equipment requirements as well as technical complexity of the procedure.

Typical in-room consultation-associated procedure fees can range from $100 to $300 out of pocket, in addition to the consultation fee.  If you are having multiple procedures (ie multiple biopsies), the out-of-pocket cost may exceed $500.

Patients requiring subsequent surgery or other treatments will be notified of costs at the time of booking.

All fees must be paid on the day of service.

Patients who are booked for excessive underarm sweating treatments (axillary hyperhidrosis) should visit our hyperhidrosis treatments page.

Making an appointment & deposits

Dermatology services are in high demand.  It is not uncommon for patients’ to wait several months to see a dermatologist.

Melbourne Skin & Dermatology strives to ensure efficient and timely access to dermatological care.  Cancellations and failing to attend appointments remains to be a major factor effecting efficiency of any medical practice.  Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for patients to book appointments and either cancel their appointment at late notice or fail to attend their appointment altogether.  For every time this occurs, one additional patient is unable to seen who has been patiently waiting on our waiting list.

In order to reduce such events, Melbourne Skin & Dermatology requires that patients pay a deposit to confirm an appointment.  This deposit is non-refundable and deducted from the patients’ consultation fee at the time of the consultation.  We ask that patients’ do not book an appointment unless they are certain that an appointment is required and that they can attend the appointment.

Skin Care & Cosmetic Patients

Patients seeking consultations and services provided by our cosmetic/laser nurse and dermal therapist for skin care consultations, laser treatments, mild acne, mild rosacea and general skin rejuventation, will not require a referral and can book directly with the practitioner.

The fee for an consultation with our dermal therapist or cosmetic/laser nurse is $100.  This fee is deducted in its entirety for any treatments booked at the time of the consultation.  A deposit is required to confirm the appointment.

If you would like further information on our fees, please do no hesitate to call us.

Please note that private health insurance does not cover costs of clinic consultations and procedures. This also applies to many overseas held insurance agreements.
